Road Trip: Ottawa Bound

Invisible Publishing is sending Susannah M. Smith and H.B. Hogan on a road trip! Come for the readings! Stay for the discussions! Live the soundtrack! Playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0Ge8ttcn5lf6lud0ZaxUHm

ROAD TRIP begins with an evening event here in our store on Saturday, November 17 at 7:00pm, hosted by Claire Farley.

SUSANNAH M. SMITH (Vancouver) is the author of THE FAIRY TALE MUSEUM: “A dream within a dream within a book. A wonderland-like journey through magic and imagination. I’m running out of ways to describe this book, in part because it defies description.”– Staff Pick, McNally Robinson

H.B. HOGAN (Toronto) is the author of THIS KEEPS HAPPENING: “H. B. Hogan’s stories are dirty, fresh, and brutally funny, lingering on little human details until they’re just uncomfortable enough—then pushing a little farther. Their wickedness will stay with you for days.”—Michelle Winters (Scotiabank Giller Prize-finalist for I Am a Truck)

CLAIRE FARLEY (Ottawa) is Publisher and Editor of CANTHIUS, a feminist magazine publishing poetry and prose by women and genderqueer writers.

*Shazia Hafiz Ramji was originally scheduled to appear as part of this event. Unfortunately, she is unable to attend. We hope she’ll be able to visit Ottawa soon!

This event is free and open to the public.

Rich Larson Event

Join us on Saturday, November 10 between 12:00pm and 2:00pm to meet local Science-Fiction author, Rich Larson. Having lived in many countries and written innumerable speculative fiction stories for different print and online publications, it’s no surprise that Rich has gifted us with such an intriguing and colourful debut novel. Annex is the first in The Violet Wars Trilogy and, as booksellers and Sci-Fi fans, we’re excited to say that there will be much more to come from this new, young novelist!

About the book:
“At first it is a nightmare.

When the invaders arrive, the world as they know it is destroyed. Their friends are kidnapped. Their families are changed.

Then it is a dream.

With no adults left to run things, Violet is finally free to live life on her own terms. Taking the new kid, Bo, under her wing, she and her pack of ‘Lost Boys’ can do whatever they want to do and be whoever they want to be.”

But the invaders won’t leave them alone for long…”

What readers are saying:
“Rich Larson presents a uniquely compelling apocalypse – equal parts frightening and touching.” -Alex White

“A thrilling entry into the alien invasion genre with two fierce young protagonists you won’t be able to stop rooting for.” -Fonda Lee

About the book:
“Most Ottawa Senators fans have attended a game at the Canadian Tire Centre, seen highlights of a young Daniel Alfredsson, and remember exactly where they were when the team reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2007. But only real fans know all the components of the trade which landed Jason Spezza or how to get a seat at Sens Mile. 100 Things Senators Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die is the ultimate resource guide for true fans of Ottawa hockey.
